I have been teaching wokring professionals, fresh graduates, School students for last 18 years. Initially started with Physics and then moved to Programming Languages, Project management, Agile, Scrum, Data Science, Time Management, Emotional intelligence, Mindfulness.
I try to simplify the concepts for my students and make them enjoy the subject. Everyone has different learning capabililites, interests and goals. So I customize my training based on students basics, level of interest on details, objectives and personality types. I am strong believer of studying for knoweldge rather than Studying for exams. So I encourage my students to have grip on the subject and then focus on exams. But I do mentor students on how to not get carried away and limiting to what needs to be learnt at a particluar level. Teaching is a fine balance of making students' learning journey less painful and more joyful.
I conduct online workshops, foundation classes, bootcamps for PMP candidates to help with their PMP preparation. Few tips I would like to share with all PMP candidates:
1)PMBOK 6th edition is sufficient for preparation, even in 2021. For references there are nice articles and vidoes out there. To feel less overwhelmed with the book size, go to courses where they summmarise the entire book and reduce your preparation effort (only preparation, not practise). This is where instructors like me help PMP candidates. If you are confident and are enjoying the preparation process, then you do not require external support. Treat the PMP exam as a project. Initiate and prepare for the PMP exam. Plan what and when you will read, which books or mock exams you need to go through, where you will note down and summarize. Execute your preparation plan. Continuously Monitor and Control your preparation and see if it is on tarck as per your plan. After your exam success, close the preparation project and enjoy your life. In the process there will be risks of uncertain events, distractions . Be prepared with Risk responses. And remember the quality of preparation and effectiveness is more important than just sitting with the book or aimlessly going through videos.
2)PMP preparation is best when you understand the processes and knowledge areas.
3) Trying to memorize formulas, ITTOs and processes doesn't help but only makes you feel overwhelmed.
4) Most people ignore aspects like Quality, Risk and Communications Management. But that is where your passing or failing probablity is hidden.
5)Grip on Scope, Schedule and Cost Management knowledge areas is essential without which there is no point in scheduling your exam.
6) Last and most important tip is to enjoy the learning process and balancing exam preparation with mock tests consistently for at least 2 weeks before exam.
