I believe in individual talent in teaching. There is no General model for teaching and learning. A teacher should always use her innate ability to teach to suit to the needs of the learners depending on the country, culture, previous knowledge, her personal assessment of all these factors and devising new methods and strategies suitable for the type of students rather than applying a single method to everyone. This is where the personal ability as a teacher comes into play. It depends on the personal exposure and previous knowledge, attitude, aptitude, the effectiveness of the previous teaching methods on the level of learning of the students
Finance is a wide area which requires application-level learning. So, the syllabus should be personally supplemented by the teacher with in-field problem solving sessions. A hands-on training of the stock market and the technologies related should also be taught.
Discussion sessions with industrial leaders, enhancing their communication abilities. A teacher should also conduct seminars, exhibitions to supplement the classroom teaching.
Enabling the students to submit small dissertation to solve accounting related and other finance related problems like optimum capital structure.
Creative solutions based on the known and perceived knowledge of the level of difficulty of students can create wonders. It should be based on the life-long learning by imparting techniques of self-learning through basic methodologies of acquisition of knowledge.
It can be also based on new researches. Recent researches cite that sharing of knowledge will enhance learning. Teacher can enable both online and offline methods t enhance the sharing of knowledge like online classroom group, debates, discussions etc.
A teacher should not only have sufficient knowledge of the subject area he teaches, but should also have abilities to convince the concepts to the learners. This should be made reality in a large class room as well as a small class room. The strategies adopted in a large class room is not applicable to the strategy in a small class room. A Large class room should have a large projector screen, with clearly stated concepts and videos along which the explanation and the class room activities of the teacher should be supplemented with .In such a class room there should be more time for doubt clearing sessions .In a small classroom more individual attention can be given and teacher can clearly demarcate the learning difficulties by assessing the comprehension level, remove emotional barrier towards the subject and even fix personal problems. The type of motivation required for each student should vary and student can give a personalised motivational training. This will enhance learning abilities to several thousand folds.
If the class room is large, there should be personal sessions as a small classroom
The subject grasp and explanation ability should be supplemented with the knowledge of recent researches in the field which will make teaching and learning more effective with new methods and technologies
A teacher should also be technologically upgraded. He should know ICT general to teaching and specific to a subject. For example, as teacher of Finance I should be aware of advanced Excel, SPSS, E- views, QuickBooks, Python, Tally AI, Machine Learning also.
There should be an International Angle for everything we teach. We are living in a globalised world. Also, as I am exposed to an International educational atmosphere while studying in UK, I think all our teaching should be from that angle. It should enable a student o excel in the world and contribute to the world.
