“My Company” Case: Not-for-Profits (NFP)

Materials: These instructions are for not-for-profit entities only. (a) For the not-for-profit (NFP) entity you examine: You will need a set of its financials – balance sheet (or equivalent), income statement (or equivalent), cash flow statement (or equivalent), plus a full set of notes to the financials, including the management discussion and analysis (MD&A) or its equivalent. (b) You need to focus on its annual financial reports, i.e., its Official Statement (or Annual Audited Financial Statements). Also, some public financial information on municipal-related entities can be found on Emma.msrb.org – search for the entity by name and look for the regular filings. For other NFPs, financial information is likely only available directly from the entity, if at all. (d) It is not necessary that the financials of the NFP entity be audited, although that is preferred. Also, it would be nice if there is something equivalent to an “owners’ equity statement,” although that is not required. (e) You may use additional resource materials if you believe they are relevant, but you must cite (i.e., reference) any such materials that you use in your case write-up.
