Discuss how three texts, The Container, Banga Banga and “Headlock,” illustrate different kinds of “Koreanness” that have been formed in the multiethnic, immigrant, diasporic, subimperial and imperial contexts where these three stories take place. While the idea and practice of Koreanness had been largely monoethnic, monocultural, and homogeneous before the 1990s, these texts show us how “new Koreanness” has become multiethnic, multicultural, hybrid, heterogeneous, and pluralistic in recent years. Citing 2-3 short examples from each text, discuss in detail how these narratives, both filmic and literary, represent the emergence of “new Koreanness.” (6-9 examples total for this prompt)
