I do teach hindustani vocal with harmonium, students will get to know playing harmonium along with the vocal (singing). I do start with basics such as Therories, Alankaars, and as per the progress I start with rhythm. I use tabla for rhythm in Hindustani Vocal. After that I start Raags with alaap and taans.
